Ryan E. Flinn, Ph.D. is an assistant professor at the University of North Dakota where they direct the Trauma, Substance, Justice, and Recovery Lab. Ryan’s clinical interests include trauma recovery, integrated behavioral healthcare, substance use disorder treatment, harm reduction, sexual behavior, sexual and gender identity, chronic disease, and disability. Ryan’s research focuses on leveraging recovery support services (e.g., peer support, recovery housing) to address the syndemic of trauma, substance use disorder, criminal justice system involvement, and HIV/AIDS which disproportionately impacts people with low income and economic marginalization, people of color, and sexual and gender minorities. Ryan’s scholarship is supported by the National Institute on Drug Abuse through training programs at UCLA, Brown University, Brandeis University, and Chestnut Health System’s Lighthouse Institute. Ryan is active in APA service at divisional (e.g., Division 17, Division 44, Division 31) and organization-wide levels (e.g., Committee on Early Career Psychologists, Committee of State Leaders) and serves on the editorial board of several APA journals.
